The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is pleased to announce the reopening of Runway 18L/36R for flight operations at 19:58hrs. This follows the morning closure due to a Dana Air aircraft incident involving registration number 5N-BKI, which overshot the runway during landing.

Prompt actions were taken by the emergency response team to evacuate and recover the aircraft. Subsequent clearing operations ensured the runway was free of any foreign object debris (FOD) that could compromise flight safety. FAAN Operations and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) conducted a thorough inspection, deeming the runway safe for operations with a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued.

Acknowledging the muddy area affected by the overshoot, efforts were made for efficient cleaning to expedite operations’ resumption on Runway 18L/36R.

FAAN extends gratitude to the travelling public, airline partners and stakeholders for their patience, understanding, and cooperation during the temporary closure. Apologies are offered for any inconvenience caused by the incident.

Safety and security of passengers, staff, and airport operations remain FAAN’s top priority, ensuring a secure and efficient air transport environment for all airport users.

A statement by FAAN’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah conveyed thanks for continued support and understanding.
