No Injuries, Fatalities, NSIB Confirms, As Investigation Begins Into Valuejet Incident

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into an incident involving a Bombardier CRJ-900LR aircraft, bearing nationality and registration marks 5N-BXR, owned by Valuejet Airlines.

In its reaction to the incident which occurred on November 14, 2023, the NSIB stated its commitment to unraveling the immediate and remote causes of the occurrence and assured that it has deployed investigators to the scene. The aircraft, carrying 62 passengers and 5 crew members, overshot the runway (runway 03) upon landing at the Port Harcourt International Airport from Lagos.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported, as all passengers and crew were safely evacuated and the aircraft remained undamaged.

The bureau urged the public and media to refrain from speculative discussions on the possible causes and, at the same time, respect the privacy of those who were aboard.

NSIB, a multimodal investigation agency, is mandated to investigate transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria. The objective is to identify probable causes and provide safety recommendations to prevent reoccurrence.
