NiMet, FRC Forge Partnership To Strengthen Sustainability

In a bid to enhance sustainability practices among corporate organisations in Nigeria, officials from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) convened to explore areas of collaboration.

During a courtesy visit by the executive secretary and chief executive officer of FRC,Dr. Rabiu Olowo to NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday, May 13, 2024, the director-general of NiMet,Professor Charles Anosike emphasised the growing importance of climate change in financial regulation. He highlighted NiMet’s role in providing foundational weather and climate reports essential for sustainability practices and expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to enhance capacity building initiatives.

In response, Olowo acknowledged the alignment between NiMet and FRC’s core mandates, particularly in sustainability reporting and addressing climate risks and opportunities. He emphasised FRC’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices across Nigerian organisations, underscoring the significance of collaboration between the two agencies.

The courtesy visit witnessed the participation of directors and senior staff from both NiMet and FRC, signifying the commitment of both agencies to fostering collaboration and driving sustainable development agendas in Nigeria.
