Lions Clubs, FG To Establish N3.5B Eye Care Hospital, Research Centre

The coordinating Minister of Health and Social Development, Prof. Mohammad Pate has announced Lions Clubs International’s interest in partnering with the ministry to set up an Eye Care Hospital. 

The initiative extends to establishing a diabetes and cancer research centre in the country, with a budget of N3.5 billion.

Pate shared this information on the ministry’s official X page on Thursday, emphasising the significance of strategic partnerships in building efficient health systems and enhancing healthcare accessibility for vulnerable populations. 

He underscored the collaborative efforts towards achieving universal healthcare, involving communities, religious and business leaders, philanthropies, volunteers and NGOs.

Expressing gratitude to Lions Clubs International for their commitment to offering specialised healthcare services through subsidies and community extension work, he pledged assistance, endorsements and recommendations to support the realisation of the hospital project. 

He added that the project aims to revolutionise the treatment of various eye diseases and conditions.

Science Nigeria reports that the Lions Clubs International Foundation is made up of 1.4 million members in 49,000 clubs who bring hands and hearts to the communities they serve in nearly every country on earth.
