President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation (FMSTI), Sen. Adeleke Mamora, has officially commissioned the Raw Material Research and Development Council (RMRDC) Technology and Innovation Complex (TIC) in Abuja.
This landmark event signifies Nigeria’s unwavering dedication to the progress of science and technology.
During his speech, Mamora highlighted the pivotal role of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in driving economic growth and national development. He emphasised that the commissioning of the RMRDC Technology and Innovation Complex is a significant step towards achieving industrialisation and technological self-reliance.
“This complex serves as a symbol of our commitment to harnessing our raw materials for economic prosperity and sustainable development,” Mamora declared.
“The RMRDC Technology and Innovation Complex will be a vibrant hub for collaboration, research and development initiatives, propelling Nigeria to become a global player in technological advancement and industrial transformation. It embodies our vision of creating a thriving ecosystem where research, innovation, and entrepreneurship converge.”
Mamora further stated that the TIC initiative will inspire and guide researchers, entrepreneurs, and investors in translating innovative ideas into practical solutions. The complex will play a catalytic role in involving the private sector in harnessing Nigeria’s technological potential for raw materials processing. Moreover, it will function as a centre for industrial and academic research on raw materials development and utilisation within the country.
In addition to promoting technological advancement, the RMRDC Technology and Innovation Complex will have far-reaching socioeconomic impacts. It is expected to generate job opportunities, stimulate private sector investment in resource-based industries, contribute to economic diversification and resilience, and boost the country’s GDP.
The permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation, Mrs. Monilola Udoh expressed gratitude to the management of RMRDC for their valuable contribution to the country’s economic growth. She revealed that the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) had provided the land for the RMRDC project since 2016 and it is now a successful reality.
The commissioning of the RMRDC Technology and Innovation Complex marks a significant milestone for Nigeria, reflecting its commitment to harnessing science and technology for national development. With the establishment of this complex, the country is poised to accelerate its journey towards industrialisation and self-reliance in technology, while fostering collaboration, innovation and entrepreneurial activities.
