The permanent secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development (MMSD), Dr. Mary Ogbe has begun a familiarisation tour of the ministry’s agencies in Abuja, in order to gain comprehensive understanding of their programmes and activities, with the aim of enhancing the mining sector for national development.

The tour commenced with visits to the Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG) and the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA).

During her visits, the permanent secretary expressed her appreciation for the agencies’ dedication in effectively carrying out their assigned mandates to advance the Federal Government’s economic diversification agenda. She emphasised the importance of collaboration among the agencies to achieve the common goal of national development.

Ogbe also urged the director-generals to collaborate closely with the ministry to transform the mining industry’s narrative.

The permanent secretary assured the agencies of the Ministry’s unwavering support to enable them to reach greater heights and make a positive impact on national growth and the development of the citizens.

In their addresses, the chief executives of the agencies expressed their gratitude to the permanent secretary for taking the time to visit despite her busy schedule.

They highlighted the statutory functions of their respective agencies and the milestones they have achieved. They also appealed for the ministry’s support in addressing the challenges hindering their efforts towards the development of their agencies.

The deputy director of press and public relations, Alaba Balogun stated in a press release that the agencies greatly appreciated the permanent secretary’s kind gesture and were hopeful for positive outcomes from the visit.
