Onu Lauds FIDA For Championing Women, Children’s Rights

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said the fundamental rights of women and children must be protected by both government and the society at large.

He stated this when he received members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) in his office in Abuja, commending them for their good work in tackling the problems of women and children in the areas of abuse and manipulation of human rights.

Represented by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Mr Edet Akpan, Onu appreciated FIDA for acknowledging the mandate of the ministry and its activities in repositioning the country to be a knowledge driven economy, assuring that the ministry will do everything possible to advance its cause.

He also commended FIDA for their hard work and commitment in tackling other problems besetting women and children, saying government had put in place policies that would narrow the aspect of discrimination against women and children.

The minister assured them of his ministry’s support in their humanitarian act in the cause of saving lives of women and children.

He equally thanked them for creating awareness, training as well as philanthropic gesture extended to women and children.

Earlier, the FIDA chairperson, Mrs Rekia Andrew, said the association was at the ministry to seek its (ministry) support in their endeavours even as they lauded the minister for his track record in public service.
