Mohammed Abdullahi, and the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu exchanging pleasantries with the Switzerland Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Georg Steiner when the envoy paid a courtesy call on the minister in his office in Abuja.

The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said that the surest way to move Nigerians out of poverty is to provide people with skills that will last them a lifetime.

Onu said this when he received the Ambassador of Switzerland to Nigeria, Amb. Georg Steiner, who was on a working visit yesterday in his office in Abuja.

Onu said the skills to be imparted to Nigerians will enable them to become productive and improve the country’s place on the global competitiveness ranking.

He informed the Swiss envoy of the Federal Government’s unrelenting effort to diversify the economy, as is evident in Nigeria’s earnings from non-oil sources which exceed that of crude oil.

Also, Onu said that the ministry has been given a further mandate to supervise innovations all around the country. He added that Nigeria is going to attain self-reliance in many areas of her socio-economy.

Earlier, Steiner, who said the visit was to form a mutually beneficial bond in STI development, invited the minister to the ‘Swiss- Nigerian Innovation Forum 2021-2022; Technology for a Green Future’, which he described as a strong platform to accelerate the STI relationship between both countries.
