The public relations department of the Nigeria Police Force has joined forces with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to help advance digital literacy within the force.
The partnership, aimed at enhancing communication both within and outside the police force, was formalised during a meeting between the force public relations officer’s team, led by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi and Dr. Amina Sambo-Magaji, the representative of the NITDA director-general, Mallam Kashifu Abdullahi.
NITDA’s digital literacy and capacity development department, established to implement the agency’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan, aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming Nigeria into a digital economy hub. Driven by this vision, the department actively collaborates with stakeholders to facilitate digital skills development, innovation, entrepreneurship and the adoption of emerging technologies.
In response to NITDA’s mandate, the agency will conduct specialised training sessions for the Force PRO department, focusing on digital literacy and capacity-building. This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader agenda to position Nigeria as a leading digital economy, fostering a society equipped with essential digital skills.
Furthermore, NITDA will oversee the upgrading of the IT unit within the force public relations department, reinforcing technological capabilities. The collaboration signifies a step towards creating a robust framework for planning, research, development, standardisation and regulation of information technology practices in Nigeria, as mandated by the National Information Technology Development Act (2007).
This strategic partnership underscores a concerted effort to propel Nigeria into a digital future, emphasising the pivotal role of digital literacy in shaping the nation’s technological landscape.
