The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC)’s director of financial services, Yakubu Gontor has been recognised for his outstanding professional conduct by the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).

The NYCN is an organisation that seeks to promote national integration and enhance investment in Northern Nigeria for sustainable development. Gontor received the award of Garwuwan Matasan Arewa Nigeria, which translates to ‘Shield of Northern Nigeria Youths’ for his visionary leadership, selfless service and immense contributions to youth development in the Northern states of Nigeria.

During the presentation of the award, NYCN national president, Dr. Isa Ododo commended Gontor’s professionalism and standing as a civil servant of repute. He also recognised the NCC’s efforts in enhancing digital skills in Nigerian youths through projects such as the Digital Nigeria center (DNC). Ododo urged the organisation’s executives to use their connections and network with governments across the country to raise awareness on the importance of skills acquisition and functional education.

In his acceptance speech, Gontor expressed his gratitude to the NYCN for promoting northern youths and encouraged the organisation to maintain professionalism in all their dealings. Also, he urged the NYCN to continue collaborating with the government to carry out more awareness programmes on skills acquisition and functional education.

The recognition by the NYCN gives credence to Gontor’s important role, not only as the director in charge of financial matters at NCC but also as a man of integrity managing all financial matters of the Commission.

The NCC director of public affairs, Reuben Muoka affirmed that Gontor’s leadership has been instrumental in revenue generation and financial prudency, which is required to sustain the independence of the commission as an impartial telecom industry regulator and arbiter.

In conclusion, Gontor’s award is a testament to his visionary leadership and his commitment to youth development in Nigeria. It is also a recognition of the NCC’s efforts in enhancing digital skills in Nigerian youths and the need for more awareness programmes on skills acquisition and functional education.
