Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have joined forces to advocate for better postal services.

The collaboration was disclosed on Friday, January 24, when the Postmaster General of the Federation and director-general of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Tola Odeyemi paid a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun at the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja.

This meeting was aimed at exploring mutual interests in handling NIPOST operations, securing its extensive infrastructure across Nigeria, improving logistics, fostering economic growth, enhancing communication and jointly addressing the challenges faced by both institutions. This initiative represents a significant step forward in enhancing collaboration between postal services and law enforcement.

During the meeting, Odeyemi expressed her gratitude for the long-standing support of the police personnel to NIPOST. She highlighted the importance of the synergy between the postal service and the police force in ensuring secure and efficient service delivery throughout the nation.

The Postmaster General raised concerns about the need to protect NIPOST’s vast national assets from threats such as vandalism, encroachment on infrastructure, mail theft and fraud. She emphasised the critical role of postal services in supporting community safety initiatives, which are vital to national development. “The postal service is a fundamental component of Nigeria’s societal infrastructure, and we are acutely aware of the indispensable role that law enforcement plays in protecting it,” she stated.

“Our aim today is to explore collaborative solutions to these pressing challenges, thereby enhancing the safety of our postal workforce and the communities we serve,” Odeyemi added. She also noted that the National Addressing System being developed by NIPOST will serve as a crucial tool for a robust national security system, enabling the police force to track criminal activities across Nigeria.

Egbetokun acknowledged the vital role of postal services in connecting communities and facilitating communication. He emphasised the shared goal of ensuring the security and safety of Nigerian communities. “This collaboration marks the beginning of a strengthened partnership committed to achieving our national mandate,” he stated.
