The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has initiated the installation and upgrade of the latest version of ‘Clidata’, called ‘Clidata 2023’, to enhance its service delivery.
‘Clidata’ is a Climatic Database Management System (CDBMS) used for archiving, retrieving and generating products. It simplifies data acquisition, quality control, calculations, reporting and map generation.
The installation and training form part of NiMet’s strategic plan to enhance its ability to produce multi-sectoral products and services for its stakeholders. Technical experts from the Czech Republic are presently on-site, conducting the training and upgrading the ‘Clidata’ system to the 2023 version.
Officers from the agency’s data management and ICT units will undergo training on the software’s cutting-edge features. The hands-on, interactive training will also involve the installation of advanced hardware.
The CDBMS was acquired in 2011 and, since assuming office as the director-general in 2021, Prof. Mansur Matazu has consistently emphasised the upgrade of the agency’s observational equipment as part of his policy direction.
He believes that this acquisition will enable NiMet to deliver state-of-the-art products and services to various sectors of the national economy.
