Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Petrochemicals Making Remarkable Progress – NIEEE

The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) has praised the President of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals (DPRP), Alhaji Aliko Dangote for undertaking a commendable project that will significantly contribute to the country’s overall economic growth, industrialisation and sustainable development.

Chairman of the Ibeju-Lekki chapter of NIEEE, Dr. Oluwasegun Sholiyi expressed his admiration during a technical and facilities tour of the refinery in Lagos, describing it as a “monumental achievement” and a “source of pride for Nigerians and Africans”.

Sholiyi acknowledged that the refinery is the first of its kind in this region and emphasised that the 650,000 barrels per day-Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals is a testament to a brighter future for Nigeria, the giant of Africa. He commended the high level of technology and engineering at the petrochemical company, stating that Dangote’s successful completion of this project has solidified Nigeria’s place in global oil refinery and technology history.

As the director of the National Space Research and Development Agency’s (NASRDA) Centre for Space Transport and Propulsion in Lagos State, Sholiyi explained that the refinery will not only create employment opportunities for Nigerian youths but also reduce the need for petroleum product imports, thereby saving foreign exchange and improving the country’s balance of trade.

During the tour, Sholiyi was particularly impressed by the modern technological loading system at the refinery, which he described as unparalleled worldwide. Sholiyi stated that the purpose of the visit was to establish a professional working relationship and assured the DPRP management of NIEEE’s willingness to collaborate in any area that complements the success of the establishment.

He further emphasised that this project offers hope for the country and will serve as a catalyst for its prosperity and the well-being of its citizens. The Training Manager of DPRP, Dr. Oputa Ebele expressed gratitude to the NIEEE team for their historic visit, noting that they were the first professional body to visit the refinery since its commissioning by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking on behalf of the management, Oputa expressed commitment to fostering favourable collaborations that promote growth and knowledge sharing in the engineering profession in the country. The DPRP looks forward to the potential opportunities for mutual growth and development resulting from the collaboration and professional relationship with NIEEE.

Oputa also expressed appreciation for the in-depth tour of their cutting-edge facilities by the visiting NIEEE team, stating that it has strengthened their resolve to continuously improve and strive for excellence.
