The League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) has recognised the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) as the Service Provider of the Year 2022 for its exceptional service delivery. The prestigious award was presented at the 27th annual conference of LAAC held in Lagos on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, the director-general of NiMet, Prof. Mansur Matazu acknowledged the vital role of the media in nation-building, emphasising the need for courage, selflessness and truthfulness in their reporting. He commended LAAC for upholding these principles in its coverage of the aviation industry.
“The media plays a crucial role in nation-building, and it demands courage, selflessness and patriotism. LAAC exemplifies these qualities in its coverage of the aviation industry,” Matazu stated.
The aviation industry is a rapidly evolving and technology-driven sector, vulnerable to changes and challenges. Matazu, represented by the director of research and training, Prof. Effiom Oku emphasised the dynamic nature of the industry and its significant contributions to the nation’s GDP, revenue generation, job opportunities and support to other sectors.
With stakeholders from across the aviation sector in attendance, the conference featured engaging paper presentations, insightful panel discussions, and the launch of LAAC’s magazine, Travelwatch. The event provided a platform for valuable insights and discussions on the growth and relevance of the aviation industry.
