In a commitment to fortify the operations of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and elevate its service delivery, the agency’s director-general, Prof. Charles Anosike has expressed the strategic focus of the new management in enhancing service delivery.

While speaking at the opening of the agency’s three-day management retreat in Abuja, Anosike outlined the primary objective of the 2024 NiMet management retreat, emphasising the need to strengthen collaborative relationships among the agency’s staff. He urged a departure from “internal walls and silos that have hindered productivity”, stating that “It’s time to dismantle the imaginary walls and silos built internally over the years which have been stifling productivity”.

Addressing the participants, he highlighted the importance of meteorology, stressing its significant impact on lives, properties, and the economy. “The science of meteorology should be treated and handled seriously,” he emphasised.

Encouraging active participation, Anosike urged attendees to contribute meaningfully to help NiMet achieve its mandate efficiently. Despite economic challenges, he pointed out opportunities in the external environment for NiMet, advocating for the reduction of operational wastages, prioritised spending and an improvement in internally generated revenue.

The NiMet helmsman reminded participants that the agency’s services, though directly related to weather and climate in Nigeria, extend beyond, impacting all aspects of the Nigerian economy. The retreat serves as a platform to strategise and position NiMet for optimal performance and effectiveness in service delivery.
