The director-general of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike has urged staff of the agency to ensure strict compliance with budgetary provisions and urged the attendees to discuss the 2024 budgetary provisions and improve their budgetary practices.

During his opening speech at the retreat held on Monday, May 6, 2024, Anosike stated that the NiMet budget retreat was fundamental for the new management and staff, as it offered an opportunity to improve budgetary practices. He also encouraged the directors and senior staff to listen, participate and contribute to the robust discussions during the retreat.

Anosike stressed the need for a performance-based budgeting approach that would lead to transparent and accountable budgetary processes. He further stated that the anticipated outcome of the retreat is that all participants would embrace performance-based budgeting. This, in turn, would help management and staff achieve their set goals during the budget year. The performance-based budgeting approach is in line with the performance bond signed with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN.

The NiMet director-general concluded his speech by tasking the directors and senior staff on the need for transparent and accountable budgetary processes to achieve the set goals during the budget year.
