The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning to the general public against fake social media accounts and phone numbers linked to its director general, Prof. Mansur Matazu.

In a statement released by the agency, NiMet stated that unscrupulous individuals have created fake Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, email, and phone number accounts using the director general’s name and image to defraud innocent and unsuspecting members of the public.

The management of NiMet has disassociated itself from these fake accounts and urged the public to be cautious and report any suspicious activity to the agency through its official website or email address.

NiMet also assured the public that relevant security agencies have been informed and are actively investigating the matter. The agency has pledged to continue providing uninterrupted services to stakeholders and the public, while those responsible for creating and operating the fake accounts will face the full force of the law.

The warning serves as a reminder of the dangers of online fraud and the importance of verifying the authenticity of information and individuals before engaging with them.
