Nigeria’s Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has taken a significant step towards enhancing its service delivery by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Varysian Limited, a UK-based weather and climate services consultancy.
NiMet’s director-general and CEO, Professor Charles Anosike expressed optimism about the partnership during the MoU signing, emphasising its potential to strengthen the agency’s commitment to providing world-class weather and climate information services to Nigerians and various industry sectors.
“We are pleased to partner with Varysian Limited, known for enhancing collaboration between National Meteorological & Hydrological Services (NMHS) and industry stakeholders through world-class events, data, and research,” said Anosike.
While the MoU encompasses various areas, Anosike highlighted key priorities. These include operationalising capacity development for NiMet’s staff in marine meteorology, establishing a mentorship program with global weather and climate services organisations, and enhancing the agency’s capabilities in parametric weather insurance.
The MoU signing ceremony, witnessed by NiMet’s executive director of legal services, Barr. Shola Gabriel and other agency staff, marked a crucial moment. CEO of Varysian Limited, Tom Copping signed the MoU on behalf of Varysian, while Anosike signed on behalf of NiMet.
The collaboration reflects NiMet’s proactive approach to staying at the forefront of meteorological advancements, ensuring it continues to provide accurate and valuable services to the nation and various industries it serves.
