The Federal Government has approved the lease of three aircraft for initial operations and the process for the establishment of the new national carrier, Nigeria Air.

A statement by the special assistant to the Minister of Aviation on public affairs, James Odaudu said the national carrier would begin operations with a domestic route deploying the aircraft to be procured from Airbus and Boeing.

The statement said the Minister of Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, made this announcement while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday (June 27, 2022) in Abuja.

Sirika announced that the airline would begin with domestic routes and then expands to regional and intercontinental routes. He was not specific with the actual date for the take-off of the airline operations.

Reacting to questions about a likely commencement date of operations Sirika said “the ministry will announce a date soon”.
