The Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) has revealed that it would organise the National Privacy Week – which is a week of intensive focus on awareness-creation for data subjects’ rights, capacity building on data governance, data breach remediation, among others.

This is even as Nigeria prepares to join the international community to observe Global Data Privacy Day 2023, a day set aside to create awareness of fundamental rights and freedoms relating to the privacy of citizens in the data processing ecosystem, on January 28, 2023.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami will flag off the week with a press conference on Global Data Privacy Day. National Privacy Week also coincides with the first anniversary of the establishment of the bureau.

A statement by NDPB’s head of legal enforcement and regulations, Babatunde Bamigboye, Esq. said the bureau, under the leadership of Dr. Vincent Olatunji, will set up an accelerated data breach remediation unit to resolve petitions from data subjects within the National Privacy Week.
