The Federal Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development (FMAAD) insisted that Capt. Chris Najomo remains acting director-general of the National Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
A statement by the ministry’s head of press and public affairs, Odutayo Oluseyi clarified that an article in the Punch Newspaper claiming that the director-general’s tenure was on the brink of expiration was inaccurate. The statement referred to the Public Service Rules (PRS) section 7: 020704(b) on Acting Appointment, allowing an acting appointment to be extended for another year in exceptional circumstances.
The statement emphasised that Najomo has only been in office for six months and his appointment was not for a six-month tenure. It was explained that his appointment as acting director-general was due to the President’s suspension of the former director-general of the NCAA, pending an ongoing investigation by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) on allegations of corruption.
To prevent any misunderstanding or tension in the Civil Aviation Industry, this clarification was issued to affirm that Najomo continues as the acting director-general of the NCAA without any concerns about his tenure.
