Director of the African Business Council and Zimbabwean businessman, Dr. Tinashe Manzungu has been awarded the African Archivers Award under the Excellence in Leadership and Global Corporate Enterprise in Africa category.

Manzungu, who also serves as a board director at the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), was honoured with the award at the historic Houses of Parliament in Westminster, United Kingdom, last week. In his response, he expressed his gratitude for the recognition and saw it as a unique challenge to further his ambition of contributing significantly to making Africa a global market hot spot.

“This is my first time receiving the African Archivers Award and it came as a surprise. It is an honour, coming from the whole continent—it is something that makes me realise that people have been seeing what I have been doing. I also feel immense pressure to deliver even more now to continue with this honour and contribute to Africa’s economic transformation, making the continent a hot spot for the global market,” he said.

Manzungu noted that the award not only recognizes his leadership skills but also highlights the impact of African projects and the significance of good leadership in their overall success.

“The award speaks for the potential that is within us and what we have to deliver as a continent. It gives us the force to move forward and work on important issues like the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, which aims to join 50 nations together. Through free trade, we will ensure Africa’s development in all sectors,” he emphasised.

Manzungu’s award serves as a reminder of the importance of good leadership in Africa’s economic advancement. He encouraged young people on the continent to remain focused on their visions to become future leaders transforming Africa’s economy and socio-economic development.

“I encourage young people in Africa who desire to become global leaders to start young, as early as they can. In my career path, I have learned that everything is possible. One can create their own value stage by stage and not only through nepotism, as many young people think. It is all about identifying your talent, having determination, facing failures and challenges and picking yourself up to remain focused on your vision,” he said.

The African Achievers Awards (AAA) is an annual event that aims to recognise and honour individuals, organisations, and institutions across various sectors for their outstanding contributions to the development and progress of Africa. The awards ceremony celebrates excellence, innovation, leadership and positive impact in areas such as business, politics, arts and culture, sports, education, healthcare and more.

The ceremony not only showcases and highlights success stories but also promotes networking and collaboration. It serves as an inspiration for others to strive for excellence and make a difference in their respective fields. Manzungu’s achievement at the AAA demonstrates his dedication and commitment to advancing Africa’s growth and prosperity.
