The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, has given the green light for the public presentation of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s (NiMet) 2024 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP).
The director-general, and chief executive officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike expressed gratitude for the approval, stating that the event is scheduled for February 20, 2024. The agency is actively engaging partners, including the World Meteorological Agency (WMO), the United Nations (UN) and other stakeholders. This year’s approach involves private sector participation, recognising the widespread impact of weather on various sectors of the economy such as agriculture, marine, as well as oil and gas.
In line with its statutory responsibility, NiMet has developed a draft of the 2024 Seasonal Climate Prediction for Nigeria. The process involves ongoing validation of the document’s contents and the agency plans to host a stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday, 23rd January 2024. During this meeting, the socio-economic implications of NiMet’s 2024 forecast on different sectors will be discussed and the outcomes will be integrated into the final 2024 Forecast document.
