The executive vice chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Prof. Umar Danbatta has reaffirmed the organisation’s unwavering dedication to creating digital job opportunities for Nigerian youth through its Digital Job Creation for Youths (DJCY) programme.

As part of the National Digital Economic Policy and Strategy (NDEPS 2020-2030), the DJCY initiative is designed to equip youths across all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria with digital skills and customised training.

The DJCY programme has already provided training to over 2,000 Nigerian youths and the current edition has 600 youths currently being trained. Participants are provided with free accommodation facilities for two weeks, during which they receive training in digital skills, business development, and management. They are also provided with fully-loaded laptop computers and networking devices to support them in engaging in various digital entrepreneurship businesses.

The DJCY programme has multiple objectives, including reorienting youths towards self-discovery, self-development and self-employment, strengthening technical and scientific competencies among the youths, improving access to ICT-enabled services such as banking and promoting the growth of the ICT micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector of the economy.

The DJCY programme has received commendation from the Federal Government for its effective and efficient design and implementation. Previous participants have reported gainful self-employment using the laptops and internet connectivity tools provided by the Commission. The commission is fully committed to this program and the positive impact it has on the Nigerian youth and the nation’s digital economy.

The NCC’s commitment to the Digital Job Creation for Youths programme remains unflinching as it aligns with the NDEPS 2020-2030 policy direction to accelerate economic growth in digital literacy and skills. The programme’s success in empowering Nigerian youth to take advantage of digital job opportunities underscores the importance of such initiatives in promoting economic growth and development in the country.
