The Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI) has taken a bold step to propel transformative change within Nigeria’s health sector and urged community pharmacists to lead the charge in innovation and reform.

The call was made by the executive director of CCSI, Mrs. Babafunke Fagbemi during the C-Curve Consults’ leadership training session at the International Conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) in Abuja.

Fagbemi stressed the pivotal role of community pharmacists in addressing systemic challenges by adopting unconventional approaches. She emphasised the need for transformative leadership, urging community pharmacists to break away from conventional norms and embrace “Business Unusual” to redefine their roles and amplify their impact in the healthcare landscape.

“The current healthcare landscape demands bold and visionary leadership. Community pharmacists have the opportunity to shape the future of healthcare delivery in the country by championing innovation,” stated Fagbemi, underlining the urgency of the moment.

The national chairman of ACPN, Pharm. Adewale Oladigbolu echoed the importance of transformative change for effective leadership in the healthcare sector. He emphasised that without transformation, true leadership could not be achieved. Oladigbolu urged community pharmacists to pioneer change and innovation, recognising their unique position as frontline healthcare providers.

“As frontline healthcare providers, community pharmacists possess a unique blend of expertise and experience that positions them as agents of transformation. By embracing innovation and collaboration, we can lead the charge towards a more resilient and patient-centered healthcare ecosystem,” stated Oladigbolu.

The event, serving as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and shared insights, provided interactive sessions to cultivate leadership competencies and explore innovative solutions. As Nigeria faces multifaceted health challenges, the collective resolve of community pharmacists to embrace transformative leadership is poised to shape the future of healthcare delivery in the country.

CCSI’s initiative marks a significant move towards empowering healthcare professionals to drive positive change and contribute to building a more resilient and patient-focused healthcare system in Nigeria.
