The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, has announced new initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery and maintaining environmental cleanliness across Nigeria’s airports.
Key among these measures is the appointment of voluntary special airport marshals. These individuals, drawn from NGOs, journalists and representatives of state governments, will conduct unscheduled visits to monitor airport staff conduct and hygiene. Reports from the marshals will go directly to the minister, ensuring transparency and accountability in airport operations.
In addition, the minister will personally lead monthly unscheduled airport inspections alongside top officials, including the FAAN managing director and members of aviation committees from the Senate and House of Representatives. These visits aim to assess operational performance and boost morale among airport staff.
Keyamo also announced plans to consult stakeholders over the coming weeks to appoint suitable candidates for the Special Airport Marshal programme. Their names will be made public to uphold accountability. These initiatives reflect the minister’s commitment to raising operational standards, meeting traveler expectations and ensuring the cleanliness of Nigerian airports.
