8 FCT Healthcare Workers Honoured For Exemplary Service To Humanity

Eight outstanding healthcare workers from the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Bwari, Kuje and Gwagwalada area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were celebrated and awarded for their remarkable service to humanity in an award ceremony organised by Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba (AMG) Foundation in collaboration with the Heroic Discovery and Community Development Center (HEDCODEC), which coincided with the United Nations Public Service Day, in Abuja on Thursday.

The coordinator of the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN), Magashi took the stage to recognise and commend the exceptional dedication and selflessness of these eight individuals. Their unwavering commitment to their roles as healthcare front-liners has left an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals.

“In a world where healthcare is a fundamental necessity,” said Magashi, “these remarkable individuals have embraced their roles with unwavering commitment, compassion, and expertise. They have dedicated their lives to providing care, comfort, and healing to those in need, often in the face of immense challenges and adversity”.

Highlighting the profound impact these healthcare workers have made beyond their job descriptions, Magashi emphasised that they have been a beacon of hope for patients and their families, offering solace during times of pain, hope during moments of despair, and unwavering support when it is needed the most.

The chairman of the National Advocates for Health (NA4H), Hon. Mohammed Usman also lauded their acts of kindness and empathy, which have not only healed physical wounds but also mended broken spirits and restored faith in humanity. He hailed their unwavering dedication to their profession and their patients, which earned them the utmost respect and admiration.

“Let us take a moment to reflect on the impact these healthcare workers have had on the lives they have touched,” urged Usman. “Their tireless efforts have saved lives, brought comfort to the suffering, and instilled a sense of trust and confidence in our healthcare system.”

The executive director of HEDCODEC, Mr. Kabir Abddulsalam added his voice to the chorus of appreciation, when he emphasised the crucial role of the healthcare workforce as the backbone of the healthcare system. He called on Nigerians to provide them with the necessary resources, support, and recognition they truly deserve.

“To the eight healthcare workers being honoured today, your dedication, compassion and service to humanity inspire us all,” stated Abddulsalam. “You have shown us the true meaning of selflessness and have set an example for others to follow. Your impact will be felt for generations to come, and we are forever grateful for your service.”

A family planning provider at Kuje Primary Health Centre and one of the awardees, Ms. Iyabo Balogun expressed her gratitude to the organisers for celebrating their noble contributions to humanity. She hoped that their stories would serve as a reminder of the profound difference that one person can make in the lives of many.

The United Nations Public Service Awards, presented on this day, aim to recognise outstanding contributions and achievements in public service, motivating public servants and institutions to continue their efforts in promoting sustainable development, good governance and inclusive policies. The United Nations Public Service Day is a platform to celebrate the essential role of public service in achieving sustainable development and encouraging collaboration and innovation in public administration for the betterment of societies worldwide.
