The secretary-general of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), Prof. Celeste Saulo has welcomed council members to the annual meeting.
The session, presided over by WMO President Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, marked Prof. Saulo’s first as secretary-general.
Attendees included the director-general of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to WMO, Prof. Charles Anosike, as well as other WMO Executive Council members.
In her welcome address, Saulo stated, “Climate change impacts and extreme weather greatly increase the need for strong national meteorological and hydrological services. Together, we can save lives and build resilience in a changing climate.”
Key agenda items include #EarlyWarningsForAll and the Global Greenhouse Gas Watch.
