The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has assured air travelers that the car park facility at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos is safe for travellers and vehicles, as additional security measures have been put in place to forestall vandalisation of vehicles parked within the airport grounds.
Recall that, last week, reports emanated that the Seymour Aviation Multi-level Car Park at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, recorded multiple vandalisation of vehicles parked in the care of the facility.
It claimed that motorists and travelers had complained about forced entries into parked cars, removal of car accessories and personal effects, as well as harassment of users.
The car park facility, built at the estimated cost of N8 billion, is a partnership between Seymour Aviation Limited and FAAN and it started operations in October 2017. Under the ‘build, operate and transfer’ arrangement, Seymour Aviation is to run the 1,300-parking lot spread across the six-level structure for 30 years.
In reaction to the story making the rounds on social media and other traditional media outlets, the authority assured airport users that measures have been put in place to ensure safety at the car park facility being managed by Messrs Seymour Nigeria Limited.
A statement by the FAAN general manager, corporate affairs, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, said the unfortunate incident, which has been thoroughly reviewed and addressed, was an isolated case in the history of the management of the facility.
“While we have reached out to the victim of the incident, we will like to assure our esteemed customers that the airport, as well as its parking facility, is safe and secure,” it added.
