The permanent secretary, Federal Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation, Mrs. Monilola Udoh has said that the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) is a great roadmap toward eliminating carbon emissions in Nigeria.
Speaking during a validation workshop on Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) and Associated Action Plan for Climate Change in Abuja, she described TAP as one of the activities lined up for the actualisation of Technology Needs Assessment (TNA), geared towards climate change mitigation and adaptation in Nigeria’s vulnerable economic sector.
She noted that in pursuit of the 2015 Paris Agreement which Nigeria is a signatory, the ministry’s department of environmental science and technology commenced the official validation exercise in 2020 to actualise the mandate of Nigeria’s climate change and adaptation.
Udoh further explained that the successful collection of inputs through the just-concluded regional workshops and its reports on selected and prioritised technologies for each sector will lead to the National Technology Action plan when approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
A statement by the ministry’s deputy director, press and public relations, Atuora Obed, said to this end Udoh called on the organised private and public sectors to key into the National Technology Action Plan validated today in Abuja, towards achieving carbon emission development strategies for Nigeria.
Earlier in his remarks, the head of environmental science technology, Dr. Peter Ekwueozor said that the essence of the workshop is to validate all resolutions made to enable Nigeria to develop a National Technology Action Plan which will lead to diversification of all sectors of the economy as well attract foreign and local investors.
