President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Conversion, Filling, Reverse Engineering and Training Centre in Utako Abuja.

The significant event, scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2024, signifies another achievement for NASENI in its dedication to bolstering the Federal Government’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda, specifically regarding sustainable energy options and a clean energy ecosystem.

The NASENI-Portland CNG Conversion and Training Centre, a collaboration between NASENI and Portland Gas Limited, stands as a cutting-edge facility for transitioning fossil fuel vehicles to CNG, a cleaner and more cost-efficient substitute.

This centre, furnished with state-of-the-art technology and manned by highly skilled professionals ensuring proficient and secure conversions, aims to enhance local expertise in CNG technology.

Its programmes will encompass comprehensive training for technicians, engineers, and other stakeholders, promoting the domestication of CNG system expertise and advocating for the adoption of environmentally friendly energy solutions nationwide.

As part of preliminary efforts, the executive vice chairman of NASENI, Khalil Halilu articulated that the establishment of the NASENI-Portland Gas Reverse Engineering Centre signifies a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s energy realm.

He highlighted that the CNG Centre underscores NASENI’s persistent dedication to sustainable innovation and the cultivation of indigenous technological and manufacturing capabilities. “At NASENI, we are committed to diminishing our carbon footprint and offering cost-effective, eco-friendly fuel alternatives to Nigerians.”

“This initiative is anticipated to notably curtail vehicular emissions, leading to cleaner air and a healthier environment. Moreover, the adoption of CNG will yield economic advantages by diminishing fuel expenses for consumers and spawning new employment opportunities in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector,” he added.

“NASENI cordially invites all stakeholders, from vehicle proprietors to industry experts, to leverage the services and training possibilities available at the new centers. Together, we can propel towards a greener, more sustainable future for Nigeria,” Halilu reiterated.

In alignment with the Presidential mandate on CNG (PCNGi), NASENI boasts substantial proficiency in automotive reverse engineering, exemplified by the victorious local assembly of CNG kits.

A release by the agency’s director of information, Olusegun Ayeoyenikan, disclosed that NASENI’s cadre of engineers and technicians have adeptly put together an inclusive CNG sequential kit, comprising vital components such as pressure regulator, petrol solenoid valve with manual override switch, on-off valve and refueling connector.

Others encompass control module/change-over switch, CNG level Indicator (LED Indicator), gas air mixer, CNG cylinder with valve, vapour bag & bracket, petrol hose, low-pressure gas hose, ignition advance processor, wire harness and NRV in the petrol return line.
