The President of Nigeria, Sen. Bola Tinubu, has approved the reappointment of Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha as the director-general of the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (NBRDA) for a second term of five years.
A letter from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, fnim, CON, confirmed Mustapha’s reappointment, effective from October 31, 2024, in accordance with Section 10 (1) and (3) of the National Biotechnology Development Agency (Establishment) Act, 2022.
According to the press secretary to the NBRDA DG, Toyin Omozuwa, the reappointment reflects President Tinubu’s confidence in Mustapha’s leadership and vision to drive innovation. Industry experts believe his continued role will strengthen Nigeria’s position in biotechnology, enhance food security, boost pharmaceutical production and advance the country’s bid to join the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Mustapha, a seasoned bioinorganic chemist from Dambatta local government area in Kano State, brings years of experience from both academia and industry, promising to propel ethical biotechnology practices for Nigeria’s development.
