The Bola Tinubu Green Heroes Project has been established to create job opportunities for the youth and retirees across Nigeria.
The project aims to achieve this by implementing a special presidential initiative focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
This presidential initiative will prioritise the establishment of 24 community forests, covering a total of 240 hectares of land located in 24 local government areas throughout the country. Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Salako recently outlined these plans during an event in Abuja commemorating the International Day for Combating Sand and Dust Storm.
Salako encouraged Nigerian youths and retirees to take advantage of this initiative as a means of self-empowerment. He also urged all relevant stakeholders, particularly at subnational levels, to support the initiative in order to reduce unemployment levels and address climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Furthermore, the minister disclosed in another forum that the ministry will collaborate with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) to expand all existing plastic recycling plants nationwide. This expansion is expected to create 400,000 direct jobs for youth in the country and 750,000 jobs in the future, as stated in a press release signed by the ministry’s head of press and public relations unit, Mudasiru Mufutau.
