The Federal Government has approved the launch of NIMC’s NIN Authentication service for secure and seamless identity verification.

In a directive aligned with the National Identity Management Commission’s mandate to regulate a reliable digital identity system for citizens and legal residents, President Bola Tinubu has mandated the use of NIN authentication across all ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

The launch of the NIN Authentication (NINAuth), a cutting-edge suite of web, API and mobile services, is aimed at enhancing data security, protecting privacy and simplifying access to government services. The initiative aligns with the President’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda to strengthen Nigeria’s national identity management system.

According to a statement issued by the commission’s head of corporate communications, Kayode Adegoke, Ph.D., the NINAuth application is the official service platform for integrating with NIMC’s backend infrastructure. It introduces a robust layer of data protection, empowering individuals with greater control over their personal information. The system requires users to give explicit consent before any data is shared for Know Your Customer (KYC) procedures or other forms of verification, promoting trust, transparency and user autonomy in digital identity use.

NINAuth enables secure identity verification for critical services such as SIM registration and replacement, immigration applications and passport processing, tax filing and financial transactions, driver’s license renewals, and access to government intervention programmes across MDAs.

The service offers key features including enhanced security to guard against unauthorized data access, user control to manage data-sharing preferences and seamless access via secure single sign-on for convenience.

This innovation reflects NIMC’s commitment to advancing secure and efficient digital identity systems in Nigeria. It is designed to support real-time authentication of NIN records, fostering improved service delivery, harmonisation of government databases and full compliance with national identity policies.

The NINAuth application provides a secure, scalable, and interoperable interface for identity verification through API integration. It has been designated as the exclusive platform for all NIN-based verification and authentication processes across government agencies and partners, ensuring a consistent and reliable identity verification standard.

Nigerians are encouraged to download the NINAuth app on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store to access the service. The implementation guide and process flow are available at https://ninauth.nimc.gov.ng.
