The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said sporting activities require the deployment of technology and innovation to achieve sustainable development.
He stated this in Abuja today when he received the vice-presiden of Counseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) and president of the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa, Brig. Gen. Maikano Abdullahi in his office, pointing out that sports, technology and innovation must go hand in hand for economic connectivity and development.
The minister hailed the resolve of international military bodies to embark on sporting activities, saying sporting activities would create camaraderie and strengthen bonds between nations.
He also commended the efforts of the military in stemming the tide of insurgency, banditry and other criminal activities that are prevalent in the country.
Onu said the Organisation of Military Sports in Africa (OMSA) under the headship of Abdullahi would improve Nigeria’s security fortunes and relationship with other African countries especially in the Sahel region.
Earlier, Abdullahi said his organisation was seeking the support and partnership of the minister towards organising the first ever Sahel region’s military games which he said would focus on football, golf and marathon race, to prove the strength and stamina of military officers and soldiers alike.
