President Muhammadu Buhari (PMB) has approved with immediate effect, the appointment of Engr. Tukur Funtua, as the managing director of Nigeria Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), following the retirement of the erstwhile managing director, Dr Abimbola Alale.
Funtua, born on November 24, 1966, is a native of Funtua local government area of Katsina State, northwestern Nigeria.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, PGDM, MBA and a professional diploma in education and is working towards a doctorate in environmental and sustainable development management at the University of Port Harcourt.
A statement by the senior special assistant and media spokesperson for the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mrs. Uwa Suleiman said before his appointment, Funtua was the director of health community affairs, safety and the environment, BUA Cement Plc and served in various capacities – as manager of health and safety, country HSE manager and regional manager for communications, public affairs and sustainable development at Lafarge Africa Plc, as well as group head, environment and community affairs for Dangote Cement Plc, among others.
Tukur, who has 30 years of professional experience in manufacturing, process engineering, health, production, safety and environmental management, communications and various other fields, is a chartered environmentalist at the Society for Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Mitigation, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers and the Professional Leadership Practitioners Institute.
He is a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), as well as a member of numerous professional bodies and institutes.
NIGCOMSAT is supervised by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy.
