Peter Obi’s recent diaspora engagement and gratitude tours across the United Kingdom and the United States have come to a successful end, leaving a significant impact on the global Nigerian community.
The tours, intended to express appreciation and foster unity, encouraged Nigerian citizens abroad to play an active role in Nigeria’s future.
One of the highlights of Obi’s tour was his keynote lecture at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU), titled “Harnessing the Commonwealth Advantage for Trade and Investment.” Held on October 23, 2024, at LJMU’s Redmonds’ Building, the event saw an impressive turnout, with dignitaries such as Lord-Lieutenant Mark Blundell and Lord Mayor Richard Kemp in attendance. This engagement underscored the power of the Nigerian diaspora to contribute to Nigeria’s progress.
In the United States, Obi was welcomed by Nigerian communities across cities like Houston, Los Angeles and Atlanta. During these gatherings, he engaged with Nigerians on transformative ideas focused on competence, character and compassion as pillars for a New Nigeria. Dr. Fredrick Osadebe, Pastor Joseph Tyla Dough and several others were instrumental in organising these events.
In Atlanta, Georgia State Senator Donzella James, joined by members of the U.S. House of Representatives, honoured Obi, recognising his contributions to Nigeria’s development. Expressing his gratitude, Obi emphasised the collective spirit he encountered across his tours and affirmed his dedication to building a Nigeria grounded in unity and opportunity. “Together, we will create a Nigeria where every citizen thrives,” he said.
The tour has not only strengthened connections but also underscored the importance of the Nigerian Diaspora in driving national change. The Foundation for Restoring Civic Values, led by Dr. Moses Paul, thanked everyone involved and pledged continued support in advocating for Nigeria’s progress.
