The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has extended warm greetings to maritime workers across Nigeria in celebration of the 2025 International Workers’ Day.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Oyetola commended the resilience, dedication and vital contributions of workers within the marine and blue economy sector, recognising their role in strengthening Nigeria’s economic framework and sustaining national trade.
“Today, I join millions of Nigerians in saluting the unwavering spirit and industriousness of our maritime workers – from seafarers and dockworkers to port administrators and regulators. Your efforts form the bedrock of our nation’s gateway to trade and economic prosperity,” the minister said.
He described the maritime sector as a crucial pillar of Nigeria’s economic development and emphasized its centrality to the success of the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda under Tinubu’s administration.
“Without your daily sacrifices and commitment to excellence, our ports and inland waterways would not operate with the efficiency they do. You embody the strength and perseverance of Nigeria’s workforce and your dedication fuels our collective ambition to position the country as a leading maritime hub,” he stated.
Oyetola reaffirmed the ministry’s resolve to advance policies that protect the rights and welfare of maritime workers, while investing in infrastructure, technology and training to improve working conditions and enhance productivity across the sector.
“As we mark this year’s Workers’ Day, I assure all maritime professionals that the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy stands in solidarity with you. Together, we will build a modern, secure and prosperous maritime industry that generates jobs, promotes innovation, and supports national development,” he concluded.
He also called for deeper collaboration among government agencies, labour unions and private sector stakeholders to ensure the maritime workforce remains competitive, motivated and future-ready.
International Workers’ Day, also known as May Day, is celebrated annually on May 1 to honour the contributions of workers and highlight their role in driving economic and social progress.
