The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development is investigating the ongoing dispute between the Osun State government and Thor Explorations Limited, the owners of Segilola Resources Operating Limited, regarding taxation and operational matters.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake announced that a fact-finding committee has been formed to engage both parties to resolve the conflict and restore industrial harmony. The committee is led by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Mary Ogbe and includes representatives from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Ministry of Labour and Employment and the National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).

Alake expressed concern that actions such as shutting down mining operations by state governments could harm efforts to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and potentially lead to divestment. He emphasised that mining falls under the exclusive legislative list, meaning the Ministry of Solid Minerals should be consulted before such disruptive actions are taken.

“Indiscriminate closures by subnational authorities discourage foreign investments and could result in companies pulling out of the sector,” the Minister stated. He further reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to boosting productivity, creating jobs and fostering community development nationwide.

The minister also noted that halting production undermines economic growth and harms workers who depend on mining activities for their livelihoods. He urged both Osun State governor, Sen. Ademola Adeleke and the management of Thor Explorations to cooperate with the fact-finding team and maintain operations while the issues are addressed.

“We must prioritise peace and industrial harmony for the sake of the workers and their dependents,” he added.
