The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji has expressed deep sorrow today over the passing of Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, characterising it as a significant setback for both the ministry and the nation.
Nnaji lauded Onu as a visionary and committed administrator whose remarkable contributions propelled the innovation, science and technology (IST) sector forward in Nigeria.
Nnaji’s sentiments were shared during his visit to the late minister’s residence in Abuja. He reflected on Onu’s tenure as minister from November 2015 to May 2022, highlighting the substantial achievements made under his leadership.
The ministry, Nnaji emphasised, is in mourning. He acknowledged the loss of a disciplined and dedicated leader whose integrity and passion have left an enduring impact on the IST landscape.
Furthermore, Nnaji urged the ministry’s staff and all Nigerians to uphold Onu’s exemplary commitment to the nation and to continue pursuing its prosperity.
In a statement released by the ministry’s deputy director of press and public relations, Atuora Obed, Nnaji extended his heartfelt condolences to Onu’s family, affirming his influential and fulfilled life should provide them with some comfort during this challenging period.
