Oando Energy Resources has been identified as a key partner in Nigeria’s efforts to achieve clean energy and net-zero carbon emissions by 2060, according to Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako.
During a visit by Oando’s managing director, Ainojie Irune, and his team to the Ministry of Environment in Abuja, Salako praised Oando for its achievements and commitment to environmental sustainability. He commended the company for transitioning from a small retail business into an international conglomerate and for its genuine efforts in reducing gas flaring and monitoring emissions in its operations.
Salako highlighted the Ministry’s key focus areas, including promoting circular economy practices, recycling, and reusing plastics, all aimed at driving clean energy. He also mentioned that the Energy Transition Plan, a major benchmark involving public sector institutions, aims to ensure Nigeria’s energy transition by 2030. He urged Oando to collaborate with other corporate entities to achieve these goals.
Irune, in his presentation, outlined Oando’s recent activities and achievements, emphasising the company’s efforts in reducing carbon emissions, particularly in the transportation sector. He highlighted Oando’s commitment to importing electric vehicles as part of its strategy to reduce emissions and promote cleaner environment.
Irune also noted the company’s plans to establish a local assembly plant for solar panel production and install physical mast thermo energy systems to reduce diesel usage, reinforcing Oando’s drive toward clean energy solutions.
