The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into the runway excursion of a Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft, registered as 5N-JRT and operated by Allied Air.
The incident occurred at 10:06 AM local time on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The aircraft, operating as flight AJK206 from Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport, veered off the right side of Runway 22 into a grass verge after landing. Fortunately, no fatalities or injuries to the crew or ground personnel were reported, though the aircraft sustained significant damage. Emergency response teams were swiftly deployed to ensure safety and secure the area.
In a statement, director of public affairs and family assistance at NSIB, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji confirmed that an investigation is underway to identify the causal and contributory factors behind the incident. She added that the bureau’s Go Team has been dispatched to the scene to conduct an on-site assessment, recover data and interview relevant parties.
The NSIB assured the public that further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
