The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into an accident involving a Jabiru J430 aircraft, a light single aeroplane bearing nationality and registration marks 5N-CCQ, operated by Air First Hospitality & Tours.
The incident occurred a little after 1500hrs local time on August 1, 2023.
The aircraft was engaged in a test flight over Lagos with two passengers on board when it crashed in the Oba Akran area of Lagos State. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, though the aircraft caught fire upon impact. Ongoing rainfall at the time helped contain the fire.
Both occupants of the aircraft were subsequently transported to a hospital for medical attention.
The NSIB is actively seeking assistance from the public, including pictures, videos, or other relevant evidence, to aid in a comprehensive investigation. Individuals with information can reach out to the Bureau via info@aib.gov.ng and NSIB Nigeria on various social media platforms. The NSIB’s emergency line, +234-807-709-0909, is also available for contact.
As a multimodal investigation agency, the NSIB is mandated to scrutinize transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria. The ultimate goal is to determine likely causes and propose safety recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
