NSIB Initiates Investigation Into Mattini Air Incident, Confirms No Fatalities

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched an investigation into the incident involving the Challenger 601-3R aircraft with Nationality and Registration Marks N580KR, operated by Mattini Air. The incident occurred at approximately 10:55 am on January 26, 2024. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

According to the director of public affairs and consumer protection at NSIB, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji the aircraft, carrying 12 passengers and three crew members, was en route from Abuja to Ibadan. During its final approach to Runway 22 at Ibadan Airport, the aircraft overshot the runway. All passengers and crew members were safely evacuated, and there were no reported fatalities.

NSIB has swiftly deployed a ‘Go Team’ to investigate the incident and is actively seeking assistance from the public. They encourage individuals to share any video clips, relevant evidence, or information that could aid the investigation.

The NSIB emphasised the importance of respecting the privacy of those involved and advised against assuming the cause of the incident until the formal report is released. The Bureau is committed to providing a preliminary report as soon as possible.
