The Nigeria Sustainable Cooling Project Team has sought the partnership of Voice of Nigeria (VON), a leading broadcast outlet in Nigeria, to promote scaling up energy-efficient and climate-friendly cooling in Nigeria’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).
The project director and acting director of linkages, research and consultancy at the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Samaila Gambo Zaku explained that the project, “Scaling Up Energy-Efficient and Climate-Friendly Cooling in Nigeria’s NDC Revision,” funded by the Clean Cooling Collaborative (CCC) with technical assistance from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), aims to accelerate the transition to energy-efficient air conditioners with climate-friendly refrigerants in residential, commercial and public buildings.
Zaku highlighted the importance of promoting energy-efficient air conditioners to mitigate their negative effects on the climate and conserve energy for users. The partnership with VON is seen as a strategic move to sensitise the public about the benefits of embracing energy-efficient cooling solutions.
In response, the director-general of Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Baba Ndace commended the commission and its partners for aligning with global best practices to mitigate the negative effects of climate change. He pledged VON’s support in disseminating the project’s message and objectives to Nigerians through its daily broadcasts in local and international languages.
Ndace emphasised that VON’s extensive reach and diverse language broadcasts make it a valuable platform for raising awareness about the benefits of energy-efficient air conditioners among Nigerians. The partnership between NSCP and VON is expected to enhance public understanding and adoption of energy-efficient cooling technologies to combat climate change effectively.
