The Nigeria Sustainable Cooling Project (NSCP) has joined forces with Independent Television and Radio (ITV/Radio) to advocate for energy-efficient air conditioning solutions across Nigeria.

The project coordinator for NSCP, Etiosa Uyigue, underscored the crucial role of energy efficiency in combating climate change. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions from inefficient air conditioners, Nigeria can swiftly meet its environmental commitments and optimise its energy system.

The partnership aims to accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient air conditioning units in various sectors, including industrial, public and commercial buildings. Strategies include revising energy performance standards, training enforcement agencies and raising public awareness through media campaigns.

The project director and acting director of linkages, research and consultancy at the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Samaila Gambo Zaku highlighted the project’s objective to accelerate the transition to energy-efficient air conditioners with climate-friendly refrigerants.

ITV/Radio managing director, Engr. Elvis Obaseki expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, recognising the station’s pivotal role in disseminating information to the masses. Together, NSCP and ITV/Radio are committed to educating Nigerians about the benefits of energy-efficient practices and fostering a sustainable future.
