In a move to strengthen women’s entrepreneurship in Nigeria, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has launched the “IgniteHer” Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in Abuja. The five-day intensive program is designed to equip women entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in business, overcome gender-related challenges, and contribute to economic growth.

Speaking at the launch, NITDA’s director-general, Mallam Kashifu Abdullahi, represented by the special adviser on strategic partnerships, Mrs. Iklima Musa emphasised the importance of the programme in promoting gender equality and economic inclusion. He highlighted how empowering women entrepreneurs fosters innovation, technological transformation and sustainable development.

“As we celebrate the globally recognised International Women’s Day, we are reminded that empowering women is not just about equity but about unlocking the full potential of our societies,” Abdullahi said. He noted that the theme of this year’s celebration aligns perfectly with the mission of the Bootcamp – to empower women entrepreneurs for a brighter future.

Expressing gratitude to JICA for its commitment to women’s empowerment, he described the collaboration as a testament to the power of strategic partnerships in driving meaningful change. Quoting Ravi Shankar, he stated, “Women shape our world, drive innovation, foster inclusivity, and inspire future generations. It is in this spirit that the IgniteHer Bootcamp is themed ‘Empowering Women Entrepreneurs for a Brighter Future.'”

The bootcamp is structured to address key challenges women face in entrepreneurship, such as limited access to financial resources and digital literacy gaps. Over the five days, participants will receive training on business fundamentals, scaling strategies, sustainability practices and strategic planning tools.

“In NITDA, we understand that empowering women in business is a strategic imperative for national development. Women entrepreneurs are essential drivers of economic growth, job creation, and technological advancement,” Abdullahi stated. He urged participants to embrace the training with an open mind, a spirit of collaboration and a determination to excel.

He also acknowledged the efforts of mentors, facilitators, and partners, thanking them for their dedication to fostering an inclusive economy. “This bootcamp is your opportunity to refine your skills, expand your horizons and connect with mentors and peers who will support your journey,” he said. “The future belongs to those who dare to dream, innovate and take bold steps toward their goals. This is your moment to shine.”

In his remarks, JICA’s representative, Nao Fuwa, expressed excitement about the collaboration and its potential impact on Nigerian women. He described the IgniteHer Bootcamp as a great opportunity for women to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills and build sustainable businesses.

“This is a great opportunity for women to learn, connect and grow their businesses. I encourage participants to fully engage, ask questions, and enjoy the event,” Fuwa said. He further emphasised the programme’s significance, stating, “This event will not only shape you but will shape the vision of Nigeria’s economy.”

The IgniteHer Bootcamp aims to be a catalyst for lasting and transformative change, ensuring that women entrepreneurs can overcome structural barriers, scale their businesses and contribute to an inclusive and equitable digital economy in Nigeria.
