In a continued effort to position Nigeria at the forefront of the global digital economy, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering digital growth and inclusiveness.
Speaking at the 3rd edition of the TeXcellence Conference in Lagos, the director-general of NITDA, Mallam Kashifu Abdullahi outlined the agency’s vision to leverage digital innovation for economic prosperity and national development.
Represented by director of stakeholder management and partnerships, Dr. Aristotle Onumo, Abdullahi detailed the agency’s strategic roadmap, encapsulated in its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP) 2.0, 2024-2027. This plan serves as the foundation for Nigeria’s journey toward becoming a digitally empowered nation and Abdullahi emphasised the importance of clarity, collective responsibility and innovation in achieving this goal.
“Our strategy is driven by a commitment to inclusiveness and the imperative to bridge digital gaps,” Abdullahi said. He highlighted NITDA’s efforts to create a “digital social contract” structured around eight strategic pillars, including policy alignment, digital literacy and cybersecurity. These pillars are designed to support digital transformation across Nigeria, ensuring that citizens are well-equipped to thrive in the digital era.
Abdullahi stressed that Nigeria’s digital landscape is evolving rapidly, with NITDA playing a critical role in positioning the country to benefit from this global shift. The agency’s initiatives focus on addressing socio-economic disparities, promoting digital literacy and nurturing tech talent, all while confronting the challenges posed by cybersecurity.
He also underscored the importance of partnerships, noting that collaboration with stakeholders is essential for maximising the impact of NITDA’s initiatives. Abdullahi encouraged partnerships that support indigenous tech events and drive Nigeria’s integration into the global digital economy.
NITDA’s SRAP 2.0 lays the foundation for these partnerships, providing a comprehensive guide for implementing the agency’s vision. According to Abdullahi, the roadmap outlines key success indicators and the strategic importance of each pillar, ensuring that Nigeria remains on course to achieve its digital goals.
As Nigeria embraces its digital future, NITDA is leading the charge with a focus on inclusiveness, collaboration and innovation. Abdullahi concluded by urging all stakeholders to join the agency in creating a digital ecosystem that fosters prosperity and opportunity for all Nigerians.
