The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a warning about anticipated heavy rainfall in some 4 states in northern Nigeria.
NiMet through its weather forecast yesterday (July 18, 2022) revealed that heavy rainfall is anticipated over parts of Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Plateau in the next 96 hours.
Moderate-to-heavy rainfall is expected over Kaduna, Nasarawa, Adamawa, Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Kano, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi and Niger.
The moderate-to-heavy rainfall is expected to be accompanied by strong winds, especially over the North.
Low-to-moderate rainfall is expected over Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue, Ebonyi, while light or no rains are expected over the rest of the country.
NiMet has advised the public to avoid low-lying areas, refrain from driving through running water, clear waterways of debris, avoid standing under trees and unsecured structures during the rain, switch off electrical appliances before the rains [and not during it to avoid electric shock] and be prepared for this event to avoid damages from weather-related hazards.
