The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has partnered with TV Continental (TVC), a prominent broadcast media organisation, to disseminate weather and climate information.
During the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at NiMet’s headquarters in Abuja on Friday, May 17, 2024, the director-general of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, highlighted the significance of the partnership between the two entities in benefiting the public and the Nigerian economy.
“Providing accurate weather and climate information to the public and key sectors like aviation, agriculture, marine, oil and gas and construction through platforms such as TVC aids stakeholders in making climate-resilient decisions.”
Anosike emphasised the importance of clarifying NiMet’s role to the public and collaborating with TVC and other media outlets to deliver timely climate and weather information.
He stated, “NiMet’s responsibilities extend beyond weather forecasting to explaining the forecasts’ implications to farmers and stakeholders. The MOU with TVC will enhance our outreach through daily weather forecasts and related content.”
Anosike concluded, “The timing of the partnership with TVC aligns with our upcoming launch of new TV weather broadcast graphics and content. NiMet is currently sharing the 2024 seasonal climate prediction (SCP) report with farmers and stakeholders nationwide, relying on TVC and other media partners for wider dissemination.”
